CDC Counselor-In-Training Program
Our Counselor-In-Training (CIT) program is for 16-year-olds who are interested in a Summer-long training experience, learning to work with children and young teens in an active setting.
CITs will learn valuable communication and leadership skills during this summer. The goal of the CIT program is to further develop leadership skills that participants can use throughout life to identify and achieve goals. We also develop participants’ skills in leading and teaching children.
This program is for young people who are highly motivated and ready to work and play hard, and who demonstrate additional responsibility in accepting the challenges of leadership. The Counselor-in-Training Program at Camp Deer Creek is designed help facilitate the transition from camper to counselor and to offer qualified young people an opportunity to prepare for positions as future camp counselors and Unit Heads.
Applicants must possess a genuine interest in the camping/youth development field, and in working with younger campers, and be willing to commit the required energy, enthusiasm, and cooperation that are expected.
A positive and cooperative attitude and pleasant disposition are critical personal attributes for the position.
Although CITs will sometimes participate in a similar capacity to a full staff member, they will have less responsibility supervising campers with more emphasis on learning and training.
BENEFITS OF THE CIT PROGRAM:
Create lifelong friendships
Develop leadership skills and put them into practice daily
Learn from and work with great counselors
Acquire important problem solving and communication skills for future challenges in the classroom or on the job
Build self-confidence and gain experience
Become a role model and share your knowledge with younger campers
Help create the fun and unique culture that makes camp so special!
